THE longevity of the region’s biggest fishing competition, Boyne Tannum HookUp, is secured for another year.
All committee roles were filled this week in contrast to last year, which saw the competition’s continuation in jeopardy as organisers desperately sought volunteers.
At Tuesday night’s annual general meeting every committee position was filled easily.
The committee, led by president Jennifer McGuire, is already busy preparing next year’s event.
And it is making big plans for the future.
Ms Mc Guire said committee members were all “hooked” and had no plans to make the fishing competition smaller.
“For the 2017 event we’re trying to make it more family orientated,” Ms McGuire said.
“We also want more not-for-profit groups and businesses involved.”
Ms McGuire said if same level of community support continued in 2017 there was potential for more growth.
Already they have considered introducing different areas and venues in the region to the competition.
There’s a junior committee this year, too, made up of three Boyne Tannum youngsters who hope to boost junior memberships from 600 to 1000.
It’s hoped this committee of young minds is in for the long haul and that they will become the event’s future committee members.
Ms McGuire said all committee members had the passion and the drive to continue the fishing competition.
“As far as national statistics go, recreational boating in Gladstone is very high per capita,” she said. .
“We also have magnificent waterways.”
The 2017 Boyne Tannum HookUp is on April 28 to 30 at Bray Park, Boyne Island.
Registrations open in March.
